Inspiration
To create an marriage between a product and its online culture, FIJI natural artesian water was chosen for its popular identity as an aesthetic icon of the music subgenre "Vaporwave".
First making headway in 2014, Vaporwave is music defined by chill electronic, hip hop, and jazz. The genre itself is inseparable from the art that associates itself with it; all sorts of colorful grids seen in the likes of old video games, VHS-like distortion, and an assortment icons from the 90’s. One of the defining icons of this genre is FIJI water, often brought up for its attractive bottle design, complete with soft edges and easy colors.
Process
For these photos, a Photoshop-made grid was displayed via projector on a large set, created from wooden panels, a black cloth, and wooden blocks to add mountainous geometry. A slanted set was used to give height and depth to the background.
A separate exposure using a strobe from above was taken and composited over the original photo to return clarity to the labeling, as well as return branding colors and design.
Photos were color graded in Lightroom, and separate exposures were composited in Photoshop
